While he may have been Tony Stark's protégé, the MCU's Spider-Man has proved himself to be his own distinct hero and Avenger apart from Iron Man.
Although Iron Man was his mentor, Spider-Man has proved himself on more than one occasion to be a unique hero in the MCU. Having been recruited by Tony Stark to help apprehend Steve Rogers in Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker's career began alongside the Avengers. As a result, he was initially seen as the MCU's next Iron Man.
8 Spider-Man Relies On His Friends Whenever Iron Man was in trouble or was facing a challenge, he was far less inclined to rely on others such as his friends or fellow Avengers. In comparison, Ned Leeds and MJ Watson are the first people Peter Parker calls.
The Webslinger also made major sacrifices in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter chose to lose all of his friends and loved ones who all forgot he existed via a spell from Doctor Strange which saved reality and the entire multiverse. Additionally, Spider-Man lost his Aunt May who was murdered by the Green Goblin, the tragic result of Peter's attempt to do the right thing and cure the villains from other realities before sending them home in the hopes of preventing their own deaths.
