Eleven individuals, including five construction company directors, were arrested in Singapore for allegedly providing false employment information to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to inflate their foreign worker quotas. The suspects are accused of making fraudulent CPF contributions to non-existent employees to meet work permit requirements.

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has arrested 11 individuals, including five directors of construction companies, following raids conducted on January 21st. The arrests stemmed from allegations of providing false employment information to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). The companies are suspected of inflating their quota to hire foreign workers by making Central Provident Fund (CPF) contributions to Singapore ans and permanent residents who were not actually under their employment.

MOM stated in a press release on January 24th that the suspects allegedly violated the work pass framework through false declarations of employment within the construction sector. Among the 11 arrested, five are Singaporean directors, ranging in age from 42 to 57, associated with eight construction companies. MOM suggests that some Singaporeans and permanent residents linked to these fraudulent CPF contributions were approached by the directors, who offered them monetary incentives in exchange for their personal details. The ministry emphasized the importance of accurate and truthful declarations to the Controller of Work Passes for all employers and work pass applicants. Individuals found guilty of making false declarations in work pass applications face penalties including fines up to $20,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both. Errant employers may have their work pass privileges suspended, and the work pass applicant could be barred from working in Singapore. Any individuals who collaborate with employers by providing their information for fraudulent CPF contributions to meet work permit application requirements may also face legal action. MOM urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid disclosing personal information to others
