The blaze, which was attacked by 10 engine trucks and four ladder trucks, was declared under control nearly two hours later, at 6:12 p.m.
The fire damaged was contained to one home, where nine people were displaced. Another home, at 1605 Kerrigan, suffered water damage and two people were displaced because the power was turned off, Donnarumma said.
“Firefighters did a great job keeping the blaze from spreading to the neighboring buildings,” said Donnarumma, who was promoted to fire chief in September. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire departments from Harrison, Kearny, Bayonne, Jersey City and Hoboken provided mutual aid while North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue members battled the blaze.
