Four teens who have been charged with first-degree murder stemming from the killing of Chicago police Officer Aréanah Preston were also sought in connection with numerous armed robberies, police officials said.
Interim Police Superintendent Eric Carter announced the charges Wednesday against Trevell Breeland, 19, Joseph Brooks, 19, Jakwon Buchanan, 18, and a 16-year-old juvenile who will be charged as an adult.
Carter called Preston a “beloved daughter, sister and friend who wanted to make a difference in this world.”The 24-year-old officer was fatally shot outside her Avalon Park home at around 1:45 a.m. Saturday morning after returning from her shift.
