50-acre brush fire near Jamul caused by two-vehicle crash [Breaking]
A two-vehicle crash on a dirt road caused no injuries but sparked a 50-acre brush fire near Jamul on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
The fire ignited in a residential area near Proctor Valley Road, west of the Jamul Casino. The cars, which collided on a rural road, caught fire and ignited nearby brush, a Cal Fire San Diego spokesperson said. Firefighters from several agencies, including the Chula Vista Fire Department, sent crews to fight the blaze.Cal Fire Capt. Brett Pascua said the Proctor fire started shortly after 5 p.m. and was reported under control shortly after 7:45 p.m.
“No loss of property except for the two vehicles that were the cause of the fire. The 2 occupants were uninjured,” the department tweeted. An evacuation order was issued, with Steele Canyon High School set up as the evacuation point, until about 6:40 p.m.
