His journey began in 1979 when, at 28, he sought employment at the Toa Payoh bus depot. He admits his initial salary was low, but his diligence and commitment to providing for his family led him to work every available day. Throughout his career, he has driven the same route, bus service 2, connecting Changi Village Terminal and Kampong Bahru Terminal.
This consistent journey has witnessed significant changes in the bus industry. Kim Tiw highlights the introduction of air conditioning in buses, the shift from multiple staff members to single-driver operations, and the advent of technology like ez-link cards and mobile apps like BC Click, which streamline tasks like vehicle checks and paperwork. He acknowledges that while technology can be challenging for some seniors, it has been largely beneficial, with adequate training provided. Kim Tiw's observations extend beyond technological advancements. He has also noticed changes in passenger behavior, describing them as 'unreasonable' and 'demanding.' He finds himself in a difficult position, as asserting his rights can result in passenger complaints. He attributes this shift to the fast-paced and demanding nature of modern society.
