Public health experts said that the governor seemed misinformed, saying his comments seemed to echo the “anti-vax” movement.

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin in 2014. Bevin said this week that he didn't believe the government should require chickenpox vaccines. By Eli Rosenberg Eli Rosenberg General assignment reporter covering national and breaking news Email Bio Follow March 20 at 10:59 PM Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin turned heads this week after saying on a radio show that he had intentionally tried to get his children infected with chickenpox and that he didn’t support the state’s mandatory chickenpox vaccine.

There is no way to tell in advance how severe your child’s symptoms will be,” the CDC says on its website. “So it is not worth taking the chance of exposing your child to someone with the disease. The best way to protect infants and children against chickenpox is to get them vaccinated.”
