It's the dog days of August and going down the shore doesn't always beat the heat.

In the heat, there were few lines on the boardwalk. Bench seats were empty and game operators weakly tried to attract customers from the small crowd. Sitting in the sun playing his accordion was too much for Charles Pokarski. He removed his hat, wiped his brow, and moved to the shade.
