Man shot by 'possible celebratory gunfire,' from Astros win, police warn practice is dangerous
A home in southeast Houston where police say a man was struck by possible celebratory gunfire following the Astros' World Series win.A southeast Houston man suffered a gunshot wound Saturday night when a stray bullet — apparently fired into the air in celebration as the Houston Astros clinched the World Series in Game 6 — struck him in the back of his head, authorities said.— Houston police responded to reports of a shooting in the 9300 block of East Avenue O.
But Houston police believe the man had been struck by a stray bullet, possibly from celebratory gunfire related to the game. No one heard a gun being fired or saw where the bullet came from, the man's family told Houston police. The man was taken to a local hospital in an ambulance and he had been expected to survive as of Saturday night, officials said.
Shooting off gunshots into the air, even in celebration, is dangerous and illegal, Houston police have repeatedly warned residents in the past.
