ATENEO de Manila University (ADMU) and Adamson University (AdU) defeated separate foes to kick off their respective campaigns in the second round of the UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball tournament on Saturday, March 25, at the PhilSports Arena.
The Blue Eagles defeated the UE Red Warriors, 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, while the Lady Falcons turned back the UST Golden Tigresses, 11-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-22.Faith Nisperos fired 18 points on 13 attacks and five blocks to lead the sixth-running Blue Eagles, who swept their season series against the Lady Red Warriors, 2-0, to rise to 3-5.The cellar-dwelling University of the East , meanwhile, stayed winless to fall to 0-8.
Ateneo pulled away from there, though, as it unwrapped a 6-0 run capped by a Nisperos kill to take a 16-11 lead and did just enough to keep UE at bay.Joan Narit, Lyann de Guzman and AC Miner put up nine points each to help the Blue Eagles' cause, as KC Cepada and Ja Lana poured 18 markers apiece to pace the Lady Red Warriors.
