After sunny Saturday, NYC faces 8th consecutive weekend of rain

Saturday’s sunshine and warm temperatures will give way overnight to a familiar sensation for New Yorkers: wet.

Between a quarter to half an inch of rain is expected for the metropolitan area Sunday, as precipitation will carry residents into the new week before tapering off later in the day Monday. There are no flood risks anticipated for the region — just more potential disappointment. “If I said to you — every day for the last five weeks, it rained on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, you’d be like, ‘Who cares?’” said Brian Ciemnecki, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. “But it’s the weekend where everybody has plans to go out and and do stuff.”

The persistent weekend rains have forced event postponements or cancellations throughout the wet streak, including previous interruptions to the Queens Night Market, a popular Saturday destination that is forging ahead with its regular outdoor plans tonight. Its organizers have publicly lamented the rains in the past.
