COLLEGE STATION — Perhaps someday Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher will get the last laugh on his cunning counterpart at Mississippi, Lane Kiffin. It certainly won’t be this year, and next year the Aggies head back to Oxford, Miss., hoping to avoid a third consecutive loss to the Rebels.
“D.J. is a really good football coach and he knows it,” Fisher said of the Aggies’ ills against the run. “We’ll get it right.” A&M’s defensive line is loaded with five-star prospects, but even they have to figure out how to slow the run. Whatever they’re doing right now isn’t working, no matter the talent level.
The future does appear bright, however, under Weigman, if the Aggies can keep him healthy. He appeared dazed late in the game following a roughing the passer on the Rebels, and previous A&M starters Haynes King and Max Johnson already have been sidelined with injuries, primarily because of a bad offensive line.
