Two more Alabama singers — both Montgomery natives — were featured this week during battle rounds on NBCTheVoice. One triumphed, winning his battle and moving on to the next round, known as the knockouts. Another was sent home. Here's what happened:

JEROME GODWIN III VS. TALIA SMITH: ‘I THOUGHT YOU SMASHED IT’

“Jerome, I thought you smashed it,” Chance the Rapper said. “You could sing anything. I feel like you’d be really good with gospel and soul, but I also think you could do, like, Broadway stuff. Talia, I think there were like a few pitch issues a couple of times. I feel like this song is a little uptempo for your style. But midway point through to the end, you found it. And all the blends and came through really well.

In the end, Horan chose Godwin as the winner. “At the end of the day, I had to go with Jerome,” Horan said.A post shared by Jerome Godwin Somers, 31, teamed with Rachel Christine cover a cover of “Light On” by Maggie Rogers. Clarkson, their coach, said she chose this tune for the battle because both vocalists have a singer-songwriter vibe. After the performance, all four coaches offered praise and pointed to flaws.

“What happened in the early part of the song wasn’t exactly on the rails,” Shelton said. “It wasn’t at first, and then it got there. And JB, you did a lot of cool stuff up in your head voice, that was cool to hear. I feel like, overall, Rachel had the better performance.”
