AMMAN — Syrian authorities closed Aleppo airport and cancelled all flights on Nov 30, three military sources told Reuters, as rebels opposed to President Bashar al-Assad said they had reached the heart of the city.
Rebels led by the Islamist militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham riding a motorbike in al-Rashideen, Aleppo province, Syria on Nov 29.
The rebels began their incursion on Nov 27 and late on Nov 29, an operations room representing the offensive said they were sweeping through various neighbourhoods of Aleppo. Iran's allies in the region have suffered a series of blows at the hands of Israel as the Gaza war has expanded through the Middle East.
The attack is the biggest since March 2020, when Russia and Turkey agreed to a deal to de-escalate the conflict.On Nov 29, Syrian state television denied rebels had reached the city and said Russia was providing Syria's military with air support.
