Ocasio-Cortez wasn't the only one criticizing Crenshaw's post. Shannon Watts, founder of the gun control group Moms Demand Action, slammed him for not wanting"to require background checks on unlicensed gun sales because it could prevent him from loaning his handgun to traveling friends who can't pass background checks."
Crenshaw has been a staunch opponent of gun control legislation, even in the wake of several mass shootings in his home state of Texas. Crenshaw claimed that the Odessa attack was"the first mass shooting where a universal background check *possibly* would have prevented him from having a gun." But he added that"we don't make sweeping policy on one situation."
