TEMPE, AZ — An alleged shoplifter is dead after a shooting involving Tempe police officers Tuesday night near Priest Drive and Elliot Road.

Police say dispatchers received a call about a shoplifter inside a nearby Walmart just after 7:30 p.m. who had reportedly stolen a soundbar. A man matching the suspect description was located at a nearby canal, where police say the man got into a"physical confrontation" with an officer.
