Many of the rabbits are reportedly in need of medical attention.
The 192 rabbits were taken from a home in Covington Township, according to WNEP. The original estimate was that 40 rabbits needed to be rescued, but that number quickly grew.told the news outlets that many of the rabbits are in need of medical attention.
“This, for us, is one of the biggest rabbit hoarding situations we’ve ever dealt with,” Ashley Wolo, the shelter’s executive director, said to WBRE/WYOU. “Most of them are pretty thin, if not emaciated,” Lackawanna County Humane Officer Marci Zeiler said to WNEP. “A lot of them have eye issues. Some of them have also ulcerated eyes. Some of them have eye infections. There was very strong ammonia. So, we’re dealing with some upper respiratory issues.”, as well as supplies, such as rabbit cages. They are also in need of volunteers, not to mention people willing to foster or adopt the animals.
