Americans wasted 768 million vacation days last year
Share to twitterCompared with other countries, American workers get a raw deal on vacation. The U.S. remains the only advanced economy not guaranteeing vacation while the statutory minimum amount in France and Spain, for example, is 25 and 22 paid days off per year respectively. It might come as a surprise then to hear that despite their miserable legal allowance, U.S. workers actually wasted a record 768 million paid vacation days last year. That's a 9% increase on 2017.comes from the U.S.
The analysis also states that just over half of paid time was used for traveling. If Americans used more of their time off for trips, the economic opportunity for the travel industry would amount to $151.5 billion in additional spending and create two million jobs. Rather than a culture of zealous over-working, the research actually attributed much of the rise in unused vacation to the expansion of the U.S. workforce.
