ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule’s supporters, clad in ANC T-shirts, throw event into disarray as acting party spokesperson Dakota Legoete says the party condemns the call to burn books
The ANC has distanced itself from the disruption of theThe damning book by investigative journalist Pieter-louis Myburgh details the extent of ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule’s reign in the Free State.
Magashule is a former premier in the province and also led it as provincial chair for almost two decades before he was elected secretary-general. Myburgh was set to be in discussion with City Press editor Mondli Makhanya, but it was unable to continue. A group of protesters supporting Magashule disrupted the launch completely, as they chanted Magashule’s name, sang songs, drank wine and tore up a copy of the book.
Some of the protestors were clad in ANC T-shirts and also brandished posters, saying “Hands off our SG” and “Stratcom State”, a reference to the book’s title.Acting party spokesperson Dakota Legoete said on Tuesday evening the party condemned the disruption and the call to burn books in “the strongest possible term”.
