Police closed a handful of streets in Midtown Anchorage on Friday afternoon for an investigation into shots fired involving SWAT and a crisis negotiations team.
around 3:30 p.m. that officers were in the area of West 29th Place for an investigation. A spokesperson for the Anchorage Police Department confirmed via email that officers responded to shots fired just after 3 p.m.
In an updated alert at 4:30 p.m., police said West 29th Place and 30th Avenue are closed between Arctic Boulevard and Spenard Road. Arctic Boulevard is also closed between Benson Boulevard and 32nd Avenue. Tactics used during the investigation could include the use of a drone or deploying gas, police wrote in the alert. Police asked members of the public to use alternate routes and avoid the area if possible, and for people in the vicinity of the investigation to follow instructions from officers on scene.
