Andrew Yang has gone from Democratic presidential hopeful to CNN’s newest: Former Democratic presidential hopeful Andrew Yang has undergone quite the career pivot within one week, having been hired as CNN’s newest political commentator.of the Democratic presidential race last week following the New Hampshire primary, after failing to gain momentum in the first two states to cast votes.
The entrepreneur and author had built a dedicated “Yang Gang” fan base, an eclectic mix of ideologically different but disaffected voters, including both Republicans and liberal Democrats. He was little known in the political sphere before he shot to nationwide consciousness on the Democratic campaign, and his outsider campaign was often punctuated withYang, 45, was most famous for his flagship proposal, the Freedom Dividend, which would see every American given a universal basic income of $1,000 a month in an effort to reduce income inequality, alleviate poverty and offset the loss of working-class jobs.
Yang has vowed to support whoever the Democratic nominee is, and his perspective on his party’s race will be worth watching, given what he learned from his campaign. He said when he dropped out: “I hope this campaign can be a message and a word of caution and guidance to my Democratic colleagues that Donald Trump is not the cause of all of our problems.
