Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong highlighted the significant progress Ang Mo Kio has made in the past five years, emphasizing the town's commitment to enhancing the lives of both young and senior residents. Speaking at the launch of the Ang Mo Kio town council masterplan on March 15, 2025, he underscored the plan's focus on inclusivity, sustainability, and the creation of vibrant shared spaces across the town's seven divisions.
Lee pointed to various improvements already implemented, including upgraded markets and food centres, Silver Zones catered to the elderly, and Friendly Streets designed for enhanced safety and accessibility. He outlined future projects such as the Silver Upgrading Programme, which will revitalize four precincts in Chong Boon with active ageing facilities. The masterplan also includes the development of new playgrounds, community spaces, and sheltered linkways to improve daily commutes. Parks will be revitalized, cycling paths expanded, and a new 'Garden Loop' trail will connect the town's gardens with Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.The completion of the North-South Corridor and Cross Island Line will further reduce commute times, while new trains and an expanded LRT depot will alleviate waiting times for the Sengkang-Punggol LRT. Lee emphasized the town's focus on becoming a thriving, happy, and healthy place to live. He called upon residents to actively participate in shaping Ang Mo Kio's future, working together to create a town they can all be proud of. He also launched supplementary bus service 138M, facilitating access to Ang Mo Kio Polyclinic for residents, especially the elderly and less mobile. He recapped the improvements made in the past five years, including the Fernvale Community Centre and Hawker Centre, upgraded markets and food centres, new community spaces like a water playground in Buangkok Square Park, and projects aimed at enhancing accessibility for people with dementia. He also highlighted the town's commitment to green spaces and community programmes for active ageing
