Asher Notheis is a social media producer at the Washington Examiner, where he was previously a breaking news reporter. A Liberty University graduate who has spent most of his life in Virginia, Asher started writing articles for his college newspaper before writing stories for the College Fix.
Angel Studios's newly released documentary film, After Death, has scored an opening weekend of over $5 million, making it among the biggest documentary films.
The movie, which opened on Friday, had a box office opening of $5.06 million across 2,645 screens in North America, currently placing it with the 12th biggest gross for a documentary film. The successful weekend at the box office comes despite tough competition, including Five Nights at Freddy's and Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, both of which had a much wider release.
The film explores the question of what happens to people when they die and includes testimony, philosophical discussions, and scientific research that looks into the question. Included in the film are appearances from various authors, doctors, scientists, and survivors who provide their take on the subject.
Director Stephen Gray, explained that he hopes those who watch After Death will"reflect and consider all of the evidence." Gray also said that he realized"just how fragile life can be” after his brother-in-law Marko died at the age of 36."Movies have a unique ability to help shape culture and this film allows us all to explore what happens when we die," Gray said."We want everyone to come away feeling valued with a renewed sense of hope, that their life has meaning.
Angel Studios releasing After Death in theaters comes after it released Sound of Freedom earlier this year, which went on to become a surprise hit of the summer season with a global total of over $239 million. The film details the true story of Tim Ballard retiring from the Department of Homeland Security to rescue children from human trafficking.
