Canning throws seven of the hardest fastballs of his career and has little trouble in the first three innings, but he is charged with four runs in the fourth and the Angels lose for the fourth time…

ANAHEIM — Griffin Canning looked to be at his best, and then it all fell apart quickly. The Angels lost, 5-4, to the Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon, dropping the rubber game of the series and losing for the fourth time in the past five games after winning five in a row.

He threw the seven hardest pitches of his career on Wednesday, five of them while he was cruising through the first three innings. He gave up a first-inning run when Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez hit one of those fastballs – a 96.9 mph pitch above the strike zone – over the right field fence. Canning tried to pick off Julks, but the throw got past first baseman Gio Urshela and Julks went all the way to third.
