The always-in-it Avalanche did it again. The NHL’s comeback kings rallied for their 18th come-from-behind win this season — and 10th in the third period — in defeating the New York Islanders 5-3 on Tuesday night at Ball Arena.
Second-year Avs defenseman Devon Toews, the former Islander, finished with a goal, two assists and a plus-3 rating in his first game against his former team. The Islanders appeared to score with 8:11 remaining in regulation for a 4-3 lead but video replay proved the puck did not completely cross the goal line. Fifty-nine seconds later, Burakovsky scored his third goal in as many games after snapping a 17-game goals drought. He took a circle-to-circle pass from center Nazem Kadri and unloaded his strong wrist shot past goalie Ilya Sorokin.
Landeskog banked a shot off Sorokin 4:43 into the third period for his team-leading 29th goal. Center Nathan MacKinnon and Toews also scored for Colorado.
