Australia should use digital technology to make transport and transmission networks more efficient to combat rising inflation and hit net zero emissions targets, says the incoming boss of global engineering and design group Arcadis.
Mr Brookes, who is currently Arcadis’ chief operating officer, is in Australia as part of a trip to Asia, including India and the Philippines, to meet employees after being nominated as the Amsterdam-headquartered group’s next global boss. He will replace Peter Oosterveer in May if his appointment is approved by shareholders.Arcadis provides some asset management services in Australia, and it wants to expand these, including bringing in technology to operate and maintain infrastructure.
As well as work on traditional infrastructure projects such as the new Western Sydney Airport and the Sydney Metro, Arcadis is helping BP transform petrol stations into electric vehicle charging centres and tendering for work with state and federal governments to advise them how to shift away from cars powered by fossil fuels.“Electric cars will only take off when that charging infrastructure is in place,” Mr Brookes said.
Many countries wanted to protect their ability to produce semiconductors, Mr Brookes said. Arcadis also wants to take DPS’ manufacturing and engineering expertise to other clients, such as developers of batteries for electric vehicles.
