One Ocean Expeditions had leased the vessels MV Akademik Ioffe and the MV Akademik from the Russian government.
A Canadian cruise company is taking legal action after a Russian government agency seized two polar cruise ships it had been leasing without warning.
The oceanographic acoustic research vessel Akademik Ioffe is pictured in the western Antarctic peninsula on March 05, 2016. The vessel was among two reportedly seized by Russia in the Arctic.
"The ships are time-chartered and the P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of Russian Academy of Sciences, the owner of the vessels, is not to be blamed for cancellation of cruises, as announced by the One Ocean Expeditions,"A cruise booking agent that organizes OOE trips said the spat means an end to its partnership with the Russian government body that owned the vessels.
