The funeral commission oversees an industry whose customers are almost always in a vulnerable state of grief. It’s critical for state legislators to ensure the agency gets and stays on track. They can start by not saddling the commission with any increased responsibility, which it clearly can’t handle.
“They are not protecting the citizens of Texas from deceptive funeral practitioners; how do you think they will protect the donated human remains which the people of Texas have entrusted them with?” Bower wrote to the committee.
