Karen Warren/Staff photographerThe Astros’ veteran catcher is scheduled to wear a microphone for an in-game conversation during Sunday’s home game against the Rangers that will air on ESPN.

Maldonado will chat with the broadcast crew of play-by-play man Karl Ravech and analysts David Cone and Eduardo Pérez, likely during the early innings. According to an ESPN spokesman, Maldonado will be the first catcher to wear a microphone for a live interview during a regular-season game. Teammate Alex Bregman was interviewed during the March 30 season-opening loss to the White Sox, with a ground ball hit to the third baseman to cap the top half of the third inning when he was wearing a mic.

Sunday’s game is among two the Astros will play on ESPN this month. The network will also carry the April 30 series finale against the Phillies, last year’s World Series opponent.
