The Astros suffered a gut-wrenching loss as the Braves walked off with a win in Atlanta.
Houston Astros relief pitcher Ryne Stanek throws in the eleventh inning of a baseball game against the Atlanta Braves Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, in Atlanta. ATLANTA — Ryne Stanek watched in agony while the game rolled away, past a dramatically shifted defense and into an area no one occupied. Matt Olson offered a half-swing at a slider and sent it into no man’s land, sinking the Astros in a gut-wrenching loss.
The teams traded two-spots in the 10th inning. Jake Meyers and Yuli Gurriel delivered run-scoring hits for Houston, handing Héctor Neris a two-run lead to protect. He required 10 pitches to give it away. A double by Michael Harris II and a single from former Astro Robbie Grossman tied the game. Javier last threw at Truist Park during Game 4 of the World Series. The back-to-back home runs he surrendered decided the game and dug Houston a series deficit from which it could not climb. An actual chance for atonement will arrive this October. Saturday delivered a fine start.
