Why did Aubrey Plaza want to join the MCU show AgathaCovenOfChaos? 🤔 'I think working with Kathryn Hahn... we shared a couple moments on screen on Parks and Recreation years ago, ten years ago, but I’ve never gotten to work with her, really...'

Aubrey Plaza, who will star in the upcoming Disney+ series Agatha: Coven of Chaos, opens up about why she's joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Plaza has had a busy year, starting with a heavily praised lead performance in the dramatic thriller Emily the Criminal. She's also giving a standout turn in The White Lotus season 2, appearing to be something close to an audience surrogate early on.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an interview on In the Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast, Plaza discusses her upcoming projects and mentions what drew her to join Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Plaza spoke about her desire to work with series star Kathryn Hahn, and mentions how they only interacted briefly on-screen when Hahn guest-starred on Parks and Recreation.

I think working with Kathryn Hahn, she’s a friend of mine. I’ve known her for years, we’ve never really got—you know, we shared a couple moments on screen on Parks and Recreation years ago, ten years ago, but I’ve never gotten to work with her, really, and she’s I think she’s one of the most incredible actresses that’s working today. She’s a friend of mine, she speaks my language.

This points to some deep continuity between the two projects. Agatha: Coven of Chaos will begin filming next week, according to Ford, and fans will likely learn more about the project's specifics as it draws closer to its planned 2023 release. But it is evident the MCU has brought together an impressive supporting cast. Ford, of course, had the iconic role of Anya on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Zamata is a former Saturday Night Live actor who leads the sitcom Home Economics on ABC.

Marvel doesn't always make the best use of its talented ensembles, something alluded to in the meta She-Hulk ending, but if Schaeffer and the team behind Agatha: Coven of Chaos can find a way to lean into their actors and characters first and foremost, rather than the demands of an always-expanding franchise, it will be certainly a spinoff worth watching. In any case, the acting talent is what appealed most to Plaza.
