Aurora honored two longtime volunteers this week for their efforts to make the city a better place.
Curtis Wilson has always been glad he settled in Aurora after leaving his hometown of Chicago. “Coming from Chicago, there’s not really that sense of community,” he said. And Wilson has embraced the sense of community in Aurora, by becoming a big part of it through his volunteer service.
Irvin also presented a Mayor’s Award of Excellence to Shanita Anderson, who has served on the Historic Preservation Commission, and for the past 10 years as a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, from which she is retiring. Anderson said she had a “good time” on the commission. “I met some wonderful people,” she said. “But it’s time.
