The ordinance changes would look at constitutional issues of free speech and safety parameters, including the addition of background checks for people going door-to-door, officials said.
In particular, the law looks at those who go door-to-door to sell commercial items or services, or promote not-for-profit organizations.
Alex Voigt, deputy chief of staff in the mayor’s office, told aldermen meeting as a Committee of the Whole recently that so far, discussions have been “a very broad overview” of what the city does, and possible changes. So far, discussion has been limited to the City Council’s Rules, Administration and Procedures Committee.
That committee will hear a more detailed proposal beginning Sept. 5, and will discuss it again at a second committee meeting in September.“We will be bringing a comprehensive draft ordinance forward in September,” Voigt said. The ordinance changes would look at constitutional issues of free speech and safety parameters, including the addition of background checks for people going door-to-door, Voigt said.
