SYDNEY – Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Wednesday the Quad meeting of the leaders of Australia, Japan, India and the United States would not go ahead in Sydney next week.

Mr Albanese added an existing bilateral meeting with India Prime Minister Narendra Modi may still go ahead.due to debt ceiling negotiations in Washington. “The President apologised that he would now have to postpone this visit,” Mr Albanese said in a statement. The leaders had agreed to work to reschedule Mr Biden’s visit to Australia “at the earliest opportunity”, he added.Beijing sees it as an attempt to push back against its growing influence in the region.
