An Australian tourist went on a destructive rampage at a cafe in Danang, Vietnam, smashing equipment and furniture, leading to his detention. The incident resulted in significant financial losses and a temporary closure for the business.

An Australian man caused extensive damage to a cafe in Danang , Vietnam on Friday, May 29, around 11.45am local time. The incident, which lasted about 30 minutes, took place at the Ge Cafe on Le Hong Phong Street.

According to the cafe's Facebook post, the man entered and sat at a table. Staff, with the help of another English-speaking customer, communicated with him via a smartphone. The situation escalated when the man took the customer's phone and refused to give it back despite repeated requests, leading staff to call the authorities. Before intervention, the man removed his shirt and began a violent rampage, destroying bar equipment, throwing chairs and tables, shattering glass panels, and damaging customers' belongings.

He smashed a coffee machine, grinder, brewing tools, and antique decorative items. Social media videos showed the shirtless man throwing furniture and breaking interior glass. Authorities later detained the Australian citizen, who was uncooperative and resisted arrest, taking him to the police station around 12.30am on Sunday. The cafe announced a two to three day closure for repairs and apologized for the inconvenience.

Estimated damages to the cafe were around 500 million Vietnamese dong (approximately S$24,300), with an additional 70 million dong in losses for five customers' personal items like phones and laptops
