A 48-year-old Australian woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing perfumes, undergarments, and crossbody bags from three retail stores in Changi Airport's transit area.

A 48-year-old Australia n woman has been arrested for her alleged involvement in a series of thefts at retail stores located in the transit area of Changi Airport . The police said they were alerted to the thefts on Dec 8, after perfumes, undergarments, and crossbody bags worth about $1,500 were found missing from three retail outlets. The thefts came to light after a store staff member noticed the woman acting suspiciously, entering and exiting the store without making any purchases.

Following this observation, the store’s Loss Prevention Officer conducted a stock check, which confirmed the missing items.Officers from the Airport Police Division, with the assistance of the store’s staff, detained the woman before she could depart on her flight out of Singapore. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had allegedly entered the three stores and concealed the stolen items in a bag on the trolley she was pushing. She then exited the stores without paying for the items.If found guilty, she could face up to seven years of jail and a fine. The police emphasised their firm stance on shop theft, stating that offenders will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law. They reiterated their commitment to working with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter such crimes
