Residents in Beijing are beating the summer heat with an increasingly popular way to cool down: swimming and kayaking in the Liangma River, a popular waterway in the city.
Since mid-June, more locals have been taking to the water to escape high temperatures and enjoy a slice of nature in the capital. To make the experience more comfortable, some vendors are offering modified kayaks and paddle boards with built-in sunshades and chairs. The river has also gone viral, with netizens joking that the crowded waterway is now “busier than the Strait of Hormuz.
”Some visitors are even bringing their dogs along to ride with them on kayaks or take a dip in the river.26-year-old Huang Fan decided to try boating after passing by the Liangma River with friends. At 150 yuan for a day's rental, he said it was worth it for the chance to enjoy boating in Beijing. This summer marked Mr Bai Zheng’s first swim in open water.
He said he quickly fell in love with the experience, calling it "awesome" and unlike anything he'd tried before.
