Belinda Bencic advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open after Naomi Osaka retired due to an abdominal injury during their third-round match.

Swiss tennis star Belinda Bencic advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open after her opponent, two-time champion Naomi Osaka , retired from their third-round match due to an abdominal injury. Bencic won the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6(3), before Osaka, who also withdrew from the Auckland final earlier this month with a similar injury, decided to stop playing. Osaka held a 5-2 lead in the opening set but visibly struggled with her abdomen and called for a physio during a changeover.

The 27-year-old initially continued playing after treatment but ultimately decided to retire from the match. 'I really feel for Naomi, I saw her struggling a little bit at the end of the set and obviously it's not the way you would like this match to end,' Bencic said. 'I thought it was a good match so hopefully she'll be fine soon and she can play well for the rest of the season.
