On September 4, Futurama released its long-awaited pandemic parody episode. Considering the show's known for satirizing real-life events, it only seemed appropriate that it centered its story on a virus called Explovid-23, which causes social distancing, masking, and quarantine. In addition to covering a major world event, Futurama's "Rage Against the Vaccine" episode revived a classic casting tradition.
Bill Nye is the first Futurama scientist cameo in 12 years, appearing in season 11, episode 7, "Rage Against the Vaccine." In this installment, Nye appears as a head in a jar to announce the end of the Explovid-23 at the Central Park celebration. After he makes his announcement, he and everyone around him begin coughing uncontrollably, proving the pandemic isn't gone.
