A Birmingham man convicted of murder who failed to turn himself in at the Jefferson County Jail Monday after he was allowed to attend his brother’s funeral is now in custody.
Jail records show 29-year-old Nicholas Miranda was booked back into county lockup at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday. Miranda was taken into custody in Brighton by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Detail and the Sheriff’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team. Birmingham police are part of the U.S. Marshals task force.That shooting happened in broad daylight on July 23, 2020, in the 8200 block of Fourth Avenue North, just steps away from East Lake Park.
Miranda had been out on bond pending last week’s trial. Following his conviction, he was granted permission to surrender to the jail Monday so that he could attend his brother’s funeral on Saturday.Jefferson County Circuit Judge Michael Streety then issued an order stating Miranda had violated the conditions of his electronic monitoring, and jail records show Miranda did not surrender as planned.A new warrant was issued for his arrest for failure to appear. He is now being held without bond.
