The Somersville Road exit on westbound Highway 4 was closed for about three hours.
ANTIOCH — A truck carrying bio-degradable waste leaked on a freeway exit Wednesday, forcing closure of the exit and a hazardous materials team response, authorities said.
About 1,000 gallons of so-called black water leaked at the Somersville Road exit on westbound Highway 4 about 2:20 p.m., according to Contra Costa Fire Protection spokesman Steve Hill. “It was a leak of natural biodegradable sanitation chemicals,” Hill said of the substance. “We were able to contain the leak and county’s hazardous materials team did the rest.”
The leak wound up in a water detention basin. A hazardous materials team had the spill cleaned up in a couple of hours. The California Highway Patrol said the westbound exit at Somersville road remained closed until 5:15 p.m.
