Lively wore a floor-length rose gold gown with a shimmering geometric design and a giant bow by Atelier Versace. She even topped off the look with long pink and green earrings by Lorraine Schwartz, rose gold gloves, and a tiara to symbolize Lady Liberty. She looked every bit like a glamorous present—but the surprises didn't stop there. While she was on the red carpet steps, Met Gala assistants untied her bow to reveal the bright blue-green train that was hiding underneath.
Apparently, the dress transformation is meant to represent the Statue of Liberty going from copper to green. The draping on the gown is also meant to mimic that of the statue, the train represents the 12 zodiac signs present on the constellation ceiling of New York's Grand Central Station, the golden design on the torso is meant to represent the Chrysler Building.
"Well, I thought instead of looking to fashion to influence the dress, I looked to New York City architecture and the classic buildings," Lively toldThe crown has seven tiers, and the statue has seven rays,"representing the sun's rays and also the seven seas and continents, which represents welcomeness, inclusivity, and freedom," Lively said."I sound like a Wikipedia page. And it's just 25 windows, so Lorraine put 25 stones at the bottom," she added.
