Stancl was originally drafted by the Blues in the fourth round of the 2023 NHL Draft. The 19-year-old played all of the 2023-24 season with the Växjö Lakers HC in Sweden. Stancl recorded 14 points and 12 penalty minutes in 28 games with Växjö Lakers HC’s U20 team in Sweden’s top junior hockey league. He added one point in four playoff games for the Lakers.

The Praha, Czechia native also played in seven games for the Växjö Lakers HC Swedish Hockey League team, recording one goal and two penalty minutes with the big club.Most recently, the 6-foot-3 winger finished with six points in seven games during the 2024 World Junior Championship in Sweden. After losing to host Sweden in the semi-final, Czechia knocked off Finland 8-5 to win the bronze medal. Team USA defeated Sweden in the gold medal game.St.

Drew Bannister immediately stepped into the interim role and led the Blues to a nice turnaround with a 30-19-5 record. The interim tag was eventually removed and Bannister became the new head coach on May 7.
