Boeing's congressional base began to fray amid growing global pressure for the U.S. to follow much of the world by grounding a Boeing plane involved in two deadly air disasters

Boeing is one of the most powerful companies in Washington, a lobbying force with defenders throughout Congress, a former executive in President Donald Trump's Cabinet and the clout that comes with being one of the United States' biggest manufacturers.

Boeing’s influence in Washington is vast. Rep. Rick Larsen , who chairs the subcommittee in charge of aviation in the House and represents a district that is home to a major Boeing facility, pointed out that the FAA has not called for the jets to be taken out of service.
