RIO DE JANEIRO : Brazil's Serie A leaders Botafogo have signed Diego Costa on a free transfer, the Brazilian club said on Saturday, with the former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid striker being parachuted in amid an ongoing injury crisis.
Costa, 34, was a free agent after leaving Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in June and will sign a four-month deal with Botafogo, who are dominating the Brazilian league with 14 wins in 18 games, building a 12-point lead atop. "I'm very happy to have been chosen to be part of the family. Thanks and I see you soon," Costa said in his social media on Saturday.
"Diego will arrive in Rio de Janeiro in the coming days and will be reunited with coach Bruno Lage, with whom he worked at Wolverhampton in England."
