Worldwide, it has provided antiretroviral therapy to 20.1 million people; 30.3 million voluntary male circumcisions – a procedure that reduces spread of HIV; and support to 7.3 million orphans.
“We met mothers in despair, and we held tiny babies that were sick and dying from AIDS,” she said. “The toll in affected countries was staggering.”“Families were celebrating a second chance at life,” she said. And, as it turned out, measures to slow the spread of HIV also tamped down cervical cancer and other maladies, “thanks to the generosity of the American people.
