Captain America and Spider-Man have frequently worked side-by-side, as two of Marvel's most iconic heroes – all while Cap was secretly arachnophobic.
Captain America isn't afraid of much, but as it turns out, the star-spangled Avenger does have one phobia – which puts his working relationship, and friendship, with another iconic Marvel hero in an entirely new context. Steve Rogers is ready to tackle most threats head-on with determination. However, as it turns out, he does have one fear that holds him back: spiders.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Captain America #2 – by J. Michael Straczynski, Jesus Saiz, Matt Hollingsworth, and VC's Joe Caramagna – gives voice to Cap's arachnophobia, which he reveals to none other than Spider-Man.Captain America and Spider-Man are long-time allies, but this new revelation about Steve Rogers feelings toward spiders puts a whole new spin on their dynamic.
It is rare to see Steve Rogers portrayed as anything other than fearless. Whenever a fear is established for him, it is usually portrayed as something more internal, such as his fear of his own persona, a case in which he is less afraid of himself, and more so hyper-critical of his limitations and flaws as a hero.
Steve's Fear Is A Testament To His Ability To Overcome Despite this long-seated fear of spiders, Captain America has never flinched away from working away from Spider-Man. Steve Rogers met Spider-Man, and chose to work with him, despite just how much spiders have "always" freaked him out. Yet, he does not let his irrational fears get in the way of frequently teaming up with a hero who reminds him of one of his worst fears.
