Mark Pynes | [email protected] Birbeck, the magisterial district judge serving the borough of Carlisle, has announced his intent to seek re-election to a second, six-year term.
Birbeck was appointed to his current post in June 2016 by then-Gov. Tom Wolf after his predecessor, Jessica Brewbaker, was elected to a seat on Cumberland County’s court of common pleas. Birbeck then ran for a full term as MDJ in 2017. A graduate of Lebanon Valley College and Dickinson School of Law, Birbeck worked as a prosecutor in the Cumberland County District Attorney’s office from 1990 till he moved to the bench. Prior to that, he worked for two years in the Cumberland County public defender’s office.Sometimes described as the front line of Pennsylvania’s judicial system,They can issue arrest and search warrants to police, and also emergency protection orders when the county courthouse is closed.
