A brick wall at least 126 years old on the east side of the sidewalk on Sheridan Road, in front of the Lincoln Center administration building for Waukegan Community Unit School District 60, will be torn down.

Before the district purchased the building in 1976, it was the home of Holy Child High School for girls for more than 50 years. There were two homes there before it became a school. Janet Kilkelly, a 1972 graduate of the Holy Child, plans to ask for a memento.

The district is planning to demolish the wall on the east side of Sheridan Road, just south of Glen Flora Avenue, as soon as plans are in place to safely take it down because the cost of repairing it is significantly greater than the expense to remove it. “We know it adds character to the neighborhood, and we want to do something which will still add character to the neighborhood,” he said. “There are nice masonry pillars, and we’d like to keep them.”
