Child Benefit and other government benefits will be paid early for many next month because of the August bank holiday

Thousands of people who receive benefits including Child Benefit, Tax Credits and Universal Credit could receive their payments early next month. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, those due a payment from the Department of Work and Pensions or HMRC on Monday 26 August will be affected.

That’s because 26 August is a bank holiday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and 5 August is a bank holiday in Scotland. Benefit payments will be moved to accommodate this.When will I get my benefit payment instead? If your payment date is on a weekend or a bank holiday, the government says ‘you’ll usually be paid on the working day before’.
